Even if you\u2019ve lost some teeth, you may be reluctant to get dentures. After all, you\u2019ve likely heard several negative stereotypes about them. However, there\u2019s no reason to fear or avoid this dental treatment<\/a> \u2014 the bad rap they get is entirely unfounded. In fact, dentures\u2019 so-called \u201cdownsides\u201d almost always turn out to be myths! The reality is that false teeth effectively restore smiles to their former glory. To see for yourself, here are four common denture misconceptions and why they just aren\u2019t true.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

\u201cAll Dentures Fall Out When You Talk or Chew\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Some dentures may slip or fall, but quality ones don\u2019t. The latter type will stay secure and remain in place during most everyday situations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To be extra safe, you could even get implant dentures. These restorations attach to dental implants, so they usually can\u2019t be removed \u2014 not even by you! Even those that are removable fasten more tightly than regular dentures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019ll Have to Use Adhesive if I Get Them\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Of course, denture adhesive does exist. It\u2019s one of several tools that patients can use to secure their false teeth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even so, many dentures don\u2019t need adhesive to work. So long as they fit well, they can maintain their seal with suction alone. For instance, many people with FOY\u00ae Dentures find the tight fit means they don\u2019t need any adhesives or creams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey’ll Make Me Look Old\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It’s often only traditional dentures that make people look old. When this type’s teeth are set too far back, your mouth can become sunken. They also aren’t tall enough to support facial tissue, resulting in increased jowls and deep skin folds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Higher-end dentures, thankfully, counter these shortcomings. Many can support facial features and provide plumper cheeks, fewer mouth wrinkles, and less loose skin under the chin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You may think you don’t need dental restorations to eat your food. If necessary, you can find workarounds on your own. It can’t be that hard, right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Actually, many foods are difficult or impossible to eat without teeth. It can still be a hassle even if you try to soften them with cooking. Plus, giving up on chewing will make it harder to enjoy your meals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
